The Cilento national park, second in Italy by extension, was recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1998 thanks to the ruins of Elea-Velia and Paestum Greek colonies and the splendid Certosa of San Lorenzo. In 2012 it was included in the world list of Geoparks by Unesco.
